Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

The following Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Statement is a living document of our values.

 

It is central to Lifeboat Productions’ mission that we create an inclusive environment both on and off the stage.

The unending work of developing equity, diversity and inclusion within our organization requires that Lifeboat Productions be a place of equal opportunity, inclusiveness and self-reflection.

We acknowledge the need to address the systemic issues of inequity, inequality, and cultural imperialism. We are committed to educating our entire organization, including our audiences, about how to uphold inclusivity.

We hold ourselves accountable to listen, learn and grow as an organization and as individuals to dismantle systems that result in the lack of access and opportunities for Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

These values shall be practiced within all aspects of the organization and continually reexamined through an annual review.

In order to work towards these values, Lifeboat is dedicated to:

  • Allocating space, time and resources to invite, acknowledge and provide a platform for marginalized and underrepresented voices

  • Advocating for and including global perspectives, because progressive values include a commitment to dismantling cultural imperialism

  • Ensuring that creative team hiring decisions reflect the wide range of diverse artists in our community and that our productions are free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination based on actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender (actual or perceived sex as well as gender identity and expression), or sex.

  • Holding accountable our audience and our staff to deepen their understand of civility, generosity, safety and compassion

  • Offering diverse stories while being conscious of how projects are selected, how works are brought to the stage and who gets to tell these stories

  • Promoting and advocating for a culture of safety, diversity, inclusion and equity within the organization

  • Advocating for and including diverse voices, experiences and perspectives at Lifeboat Productions and promoting generous and respectful discourse and consideration of diverse perspectives throughout our organization
